Currently in the UK, approximately 6.2 million people are diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is defined by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Health Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) as a “persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity - impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development”.
ADHD is a complex disorder with a complex aetiology. DSM-5 categorises it as a neurodevelopmental condition, although neurodevelopmental is often interchanged with neurobiological, psychological, psychosocial, genetic and even environmental. In reality, ADHD is not a single entity and all of the above play a part.
Understanding ADHD and how it impacts our lives is crucial to being happy in ourselves and living life in the way we’d like to live it; once we understand, there are several options for treatment (not necessarily medicinal) to help channel our energies positively.
At Diverse Identities, we provide an individualistic and compassionate approach to ensure a positive mentality towards understanding ADHD, assessment and diagnosis.
